The Faculty of Food Engineering, Tourism and Environmental Protection of the "Aurel Vlaicu" University was established in 2002 according to H. G. 410/25.04.2002. Initially, in the period 1990-2002, the Food Engineering and Environmental Protection profile functioned within the Department of Chemical Sciences and Food Technologies of the Faculty of Engineering of the "Aurel Vlaicu" University.

Undergraduate Programs

Cycle I of Undergraduate Studies


Food Products Engineering

The Food Products Engineering (IPA) study program trains specialists for food industry profile establishments. Graduates of this specialisation can work in the field of consumer protection, research and design in food industry establishments, in secondary, post-secondary, and university education, at centres for the preservation and pre-industrialisation of agricultural products, and as consulting specialists in the implementation of national and international food industry programs.

Food Control and Expertise

    The Food Control and Expertise (CEPA) study program provides, according to the curriculum, the training of specialized engineers in the field of control and expertise of food products of animal and plant origin, agro-food raw materials or processed food, beverages, juices, fresh or preserved products, etc. in accordance with the European ISO standards of total quality assurance. These engineers can work in specialized laboratories, in consumer protection departments of the State Administration, in quality control and quality assurance departments of economic units, in customs control of food products, market control, sanitary-veterinary police, in research in the field of food quality and authentication, in university, post-secondary and secondary education in the field, in design and specialized consultancy (preparation of ISO quality accreditation documentation in specialized laboratories - approvals, authorizations, accreditations), in international collaboration on quality assurance issues.


    Consumer and Environmental Protection

    The Consumer and Environmental Protection (CEP) program of study, according to the curriculum, prepares engineers who identify, describe, and apply specific food science and food safety concepts in relation to the design of new food products, project implementation and management, production management, food quality control, and marketing processes. Graduates of this study program will have competencies in communicating with consumers, economic agents, and authorised institutions about compliance with consumer protection requirements. This will improve the transparency of information between them, aiming to increase consumer confidence in the products they consume. In addition, specialised engineers, graduates of the Consumer and Environmental Protection study program, will be responsible for supervising and controlling the implementation of consumer and environmental protection legislation. Last but not least, they will be responsible for designing, managing, and continuously improving technological operations in the food industry, in accordance with the specific requirements of the current legislative framework for environmental protection.


    Biotechnical and Ecological Systems Engineering

    The Biotechnical and Ecological Systems Engineering (ISBE) study program trains engineers specialised in implementing engineering solutions and creating a balance between the economic and environmental environment, in monitoring environmental factors. Graduates of this specialization can work in environmental and ecological departments of state administration and economic units, in public services (water supply, drinking water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants), environmental research, high school, post-secondary, university education, consulting and specialized design (preparation of environmental documentation for approvals, authorizations, accreditations), implementation of environmental management systems, international collaboration on environmental issues.


      Engineering and Management in Public Food and Agrotourism

      The program of study, Engineering and Management in Public Food and Agrotourism (IMAPA), trains specialists in the valorisation of tourist resources in our country's geographical areas and the Romanian culinary tradition. Graduates of this specialization will be able to be employed as specialists in food and in management positions in public food and hotel establishments, as quality engineers in public food establishments or entrepreneurs of agro-tourism establishments, as specialists in regional consulting and development centers, in the County Directorates of Agriculture and Rural Development, as specialized inspectors in the County Councils for the promotion of Agro-tourism.


      Nutrition and Dietetics

      The Nutrition and Dietetics (ND) study program consists in training specialists in the field of nutrition and dietetics, with an emphasis on ensuring food quality, dietary behavior and the maintenance and promotion of health in the community - Training highly qualified specialists who are in dire need in a variety of areas in the health sector (hospitals, clinics, spas, rehabilitation centers) as well as in the food and nutrition research sector (educational institutions and research centers).

        Food Product Quality Management

        The Food Product Quality Management (MCPA) - Master's Degree Program. The teaching and research activities of the MCPA Master's program have the following main objectives: (i) the knowledge acquired by the graduate after the completion of his/her studies will ensure the ability to approach the scientific approach of the specialized field, to understand, innovate and create new knowledge as well as to communicate effectively orally and in writing in the field; (ii) the specialized knowledge will ensure the ability to know and understand the specific problems of the field of study considered as a unitary whole, together with the application of specific principles and methods of investigation.


          Environmental Quality Assessment and Control
          Program of study Environmental Quality Assessment and Control (ECCM) - Master's Degree Program. It trains specialists in the field of standardization, auditing and conformity assessment, realization of professional and national standards; design, realization and development of environmental quality management systems. Specialists trained in this study programme also propose policies and objectives for environmental quality, information security and occupational health; organize and carry out audits to determine the effectiveness of these management systems; assess the compliance of products and management systems with established regulations or standards and with the provisions of the organization's management.


            Agribusiness Engineering and Management
            The Agribusiness Engineering and Management (IMA) - Master's Degree Program. The graduate of a master's program of study in the field of Engineering and Management in Agriculture and Rural Development, Engineering and Management in Agribusiness Program of Study achieves objectives such as, the knowledge acquired by the master's student after graduation to ensure that he/she is able to approach the scientific approach to the specialized field, understand, innovate and create new knowledge as well as effective oral and written communication in the field, based on the managerial and managerial communication classes. Also, the specialized knowledge obtained in this program provides the future graduate with the ability to know and understand the specific problems of the field of study considered as a unitary whole, along with the application of specific principles and methods of investigation.
